Final Project

For my final project in Emerging Tech it will be about my family. I asked my family through interviews and emails. To start off my final projects, I interviewed my Grandma Lona and my Grandma Linda with 25 questions each. Next, I sent a formal email  to my mom, dad, and both of my grandmas. Since I received great information from all of them, I was able to create a family tree using Family Echo. I then created a Prezi with some interesting facts included and pictures of my family. I made an infographic about where we came from and where we live now. I then did a Five Frame Storyboard about my family looking through pictures and comparing them to now.

I agree that technology is changing everyone. I think that we, as in the world, need to get more in contact with each other face to face. Not face to screen. I mean sure you can have a REAL conversation with a REAL person through the computer, but it's not the same. You won't interact with them as you would face to face. Your attitude might be different, your style and the way you talk may be different. Everything through a computer screen is always different than in real life, face to face.

Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I think that I have misjudged teachers. Most of the time when teachers push me more than I want to or feel comfortable doing, I get scared. Scared of failing. The teacher is trying to say that all teachers are there for you even if you think you are alone. If other students read this blog post they will feel that teachers actually believe in them to succeed, even when the student thinks it is unconquerable. The "main event" is life and learning to conquer and succeed in it when we grow up.

Reflect on your stop-motion animation project. How did it go? What worked? What didn't work? If you're not finished - why? If you are finished go in to detail about the project and what you learned. Give as much detail and information as possible.

My stop-motion animation is on a white poster board. It is a M&M's moving around to form fireworks and then explode. I think my stop-motion animation project was good but could be better. The camera kept changing the settings for the flash by itself so there are pictures that were darker than the others.

What is your idea for your stop-motion animation? Explain yourself. Have you started taking photos? If not, when do you plan to take your photos? What is your action plan for today? What is your plan to GET SOMETHING DONE?

My idea is to show a firework show with M&M's on a white poster board. I haven't started taking pictures yet but I am planning to do it after school today and after school Thursday. My action plan for this class period is to plan about what materials I would need at the store. Also I will plan how to set up the items to not have the camera shake between the pictures and to make sure the lighting doesn't change throughout the pictures.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain

A stop motion animation is pictures with little movement in between each picture to make the image look like it is moving around or completing a task. A picture is only on the screen for a second before moving on to the next one.

Tell me about your 5 frame storyboard. What did you like about the project? What did you dislike? Was it hard to fit a story in to 5 images? Do you think you tell a clear story? What would you do differently if you could? Explain.

I liked that it was simple, easy to do and took not a lot of time to get done. I didn't think that the project was hard to fit into 5 images since my topic I did was not a lot of pictures. The story was clear to the people who looked at it before I published it.

What is a storyboard? If you don't know, what do you think it is? How are storyboards used? What are some different ways that storyboards can be made?

A storyboard is like a comic strip usually with some directions or dialogue. Storyboards are used to tell a story and be made from drawings or pictures.

Did you get your pictures taken yesterday? Did you enjoy going on the photo scavenger hunt? Why do you think I had you take those types of pictures?

The group got all of the pictures taken from yesterday. The whole photo scavenger hunt was kind of fun but it was boring I thought. I think you made us take those pictures because we are going to make our next project with pictures.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

The parts of my spring break were fun others were not. I went the Men's Big 12 Basketball tournament downtown at the Sprint Center. Then I traveled 7 hours to northern Illinois to visit some cousins even though they didn't have spring break when we did.

Prepare yourself... I want you to really THINK about this blog post. I mean use your brain. What is the significance of an infographic? What is the point of pairing graphics and information together? What impact can this have on a reader or viewer. EXPLAIN.

When you make a infographic you want to present your information to the viewer. The significance of having an infographic is to present data or statistics in a fun way. To make the viewer actually look and pay attention to the details.  When you pair graphics and information together it eliminates words that some people look over. When there is a lot of graphics and less writing it draws the attention of the viewer or if there is more writing it will bore the reader and they won't remember anything you are trying to present.

If you had the option of writing a 3 page paper or creating an infographic - which one would you choose? Explain yourself.

I would prefer neither but that's just me. If I had to choose one it would be a 3 page paper because I am not creative one bit.

How far along are you on your infographic? Will you be finished and ready to embed on to your blog by the end of the hour today? Do you think you've used your time wisely in class? Explain yourself.

I am behind on my infographic I would say  from everyone else. I definitely won't be able to embed it on my blog. I think I could have used my time a little wiser but I did OK so far.

Why do I have you brainstorm and collect your information in a Google Doc before putting in to final draft? Explain.

I think we brainstorm first so we can get an idea of what we are trying to accomplish. I feel I can get it done easier when I have an idea on where I have to finish.

Yesterday I introduced you to infographics... tell me again what they are and how they are used? What is the benefit of an infographic? What goes into an infogrpahic?

A infographic is a poster that shows statistics by images, colors, or shapes. The benefit to make an infographic is that more people will want to read it if it looks interesting and colorful.

Post your research paper to your blog. Give me a short (one paragraph summary) of your paper and include the link for me read your paper. Make sure you link up words! Do NOT copy and paste the ugly link. This should not be foreign to you.

My global issue paper is about cheating in sports whether it is lying or with drugs. Throughout the years of sports, cheating has evolved with different causes and effects. The most common cause is social media that makes you believe you need to be perfect all the time.

Where are you at with your 5 paragraph essay so far? How is it coming? Is it easy to write? Difficult to write? Is it helpful that you created an outline first?

I am still working on my causes paragraph. I tried working on it from home but I couldn't reach the databases needed to completely cite the sources. I was very helpful to start with an outline because it told me where my paragraph needed to end up.

Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

I look up to my uncle the most. If my parents couldn't teach me well, he would help me and teach me a different way. He taught me a couple life lessons that I could always look back on if needed. He is always there if I need him.

Tell me about the global issue you selected yesterday. Briefly restate your paragraph from yesterday.

I chose the topic cheating in sports for my global issue. I chose this one because I don't know much about it and I feel like it has gotten more popular over the years.

If you could pick one issue in the world to fix or change what would it be and why?

I would like to change awareness of cancer. Many people know what cancer is but they don't know how to know if someone has cancer.

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A Public Service Announcement is a message or cause that is shared with the world to tell others about that cause. I had to make a PSA for a child soldiers in Africa while in 7th grade. I usually see PSA's on my T.V. They usually about animal abuse or neglected children.

What have you learned about Google Drive and Google Presentation so far? What do you like about it? What problems have you run in to? Is it better than PowerPoint?

I learned that Google Drive saves every edit you change on its own, I like that it saves automatically because I'm always forgetting to save projects. I think it is better than PowerPoint because it is easier to use.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the Internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it.

I disagree that all images are 'free game'. People took time to create those pictures so they should receive credit. Nobody wants someone to steal their picture(s).
